CONGRATULATIONS TEAM RANS - 1ST

Team RANS, riding recumbent bicycles crossed the line at 9:05pm. They rode for 6 days, 3 hours and 40 minutes and over the 3021 mile journey averaged speeds of 20.46mph.

Team Captain Tim Woudenberg from Moss Beach, California. Glenn Druery, Rick Ashabranner, Karta Purkh Atehortua-Kahlsa all worked well together.

The charity they rode for was “Challenged Athlete Foundation.” More than eighty five cents of every dollar raised by CAF provides funding and programs that get challenged athletes into the game. Whether it’s a $2,500 handcycle, helping underwrite an Ossur carbon fiber running foot not covered by insurance or arranging enthusiastic encouragement from a mentor who has triumphed over a similar injury, CAF’s mission is clear: give those with the desire to live active, competitive lifestyles every opportunity to compete in the sports they love. At the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China 46 of the participating U.S. athletes (21 percent) were supported by CAF.

During the race, they all enjoyed themselves. They kept in good spirits. The only real problems that occurred during the race was a little bit of disorganization. Who’s going to sleep, whos getting the groceries and all that, but that’s RAAM. Everyone’s getting along for the most part.

What goals do we have for RAAM this year? The answer is simple – to win the four-man recumbent category, and to set a new record doing it.

Well, Rans unfortunately did not set the record but they did ride well together and finished the race in an excellent time.

Well done Rans!
